Jordan Staal placed on long-term injured reserve

The Penguins this afternoon placed center Jordan Staal on long-term injured reserve, the team announced today. The move opens up cap space for the Penguins. Staal suffered a grade 3 MCL sprain against the New York Rangers on January 6th. His timetable for a return had been considered at least 4 to 6 weeks.
