In a big development, defenseman Kris Letang has been cleared for “full” practice, head coach Dan Bylsma revealed after the Penguins 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers today. Letang hasn’t played since late January due to suffering a stroke.
Bylsma did not go into details as to what has changed in Letang’s medical condition but in just a matter of two weeks, Letang has gone from being looked at as likely not returning this season to now looking like a very good bet to return to game action at some point. Letang spent around six weeks on blood thinners.
There is no timetable on a return to play till the Penguins see how things go for him during practices, such.
“He still has some other things to go through,” Bylsma said. “We knew that this was the six week mark and there was a chance. He’s been working out, he’s been skating and doing quite a bit on his own.”
In other good news on the injury front, Beau Bennett’s visit with doctors went well and he has also been cleared for “full” practice.
