if st.blurry plays in the playoffs the pens will lose in round 1.
Based on what? The last couple seasons he has more than given his team a chance to win… the team failed to score; or play well away from the puck; or generate any real sustained pressure; or generate quality shots. Suddenly we see a much different brand of hockey in each respect… If MAF gives us the same level of game he has the past 2 years we should be alright. It is amazing.. with all the discussion around the overall difference in this team. The way the play, the speed, the play away from the puck etc you still… Read more »
Remember when you said they wouldn’t make it to round 1? Yeah – you’re a fountain of information.
But they’re only a eighth or ninth seed in the East- they might not make the playoffs lad
You’re such a tool… while anyone with a brain will wonder about how Malkin will impact the team dynamic it is something very manageable… they just don’t over think it. They leave what works and insert him into the roster with the two guys best suited for him on what is effectively a 3rd line you don’t mess with the chemistry of the top 2 lines and we add a player threat is more than a PPG. You can’t be upset to do this, there is not a single team in the game that is not envious over this position… Read more »
I agree with all of this except the part about it being the 3rd line, once Malkin gets a few games in to knock the rust off I would expect his unit to be more the 2nd line and the 62-13-81 to be more the 3rd if you must put numerical rankings to the lines.
semantics really… I dont care where he plays as I think they will roll 3 scoring lines. If we have to Call geno’s line the 2nd I wont scoff at it. He will get his 20+ mins regardless of what they call the line… so will Sid and so will Kessel
That’s why I put the “if you must put a numerical ranking to the lines” at the end, that is something fans do not coaches and I wasn’t sure if you were that type of fan that needed to have things called 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or not.
I would like to see them bump Kunitz off Sid’s line and put Malkin in there.
This is another idea that is grossly over rated by the fans. Malkin has been tried on that wing and while there is success sometimes it actually seems to make Geno go quiet. he is at his best playing centre… So is Sid so it really dont make a ton of sense
a minus? Feel free to show me evidence that this is an incorrect assessment. Maybe I am incorrect, maybe I remember things differently. Maybe the team was stupid and it was an amazing pairing that they utterly fucked up while Staal was still here and we were trying to move them all to a top 4 role.
I understand that NB has finally been playing well. I hope the guy continues that type of play and its not just more than a good stretch. I think it would only take a game that the 2nd line looked ineffective. With that being said, Malkin may help two other wingers become more effective in playoffs just because he is malkin.
We have watched Malkin and Kessel fail to click for like 40 games. Bonino is flying because he works with Kessel. This last stretch is more evidence of what we saw over a couple games in December. Even after Sullivan took over Malkin and Kessel didn’t click the way we hoped. Kessel’s point production increased but we still seen a failure to launch with his goal scoring contributions. Now that he is getting goals in a timely manner and still adding his underrated playmaking to his line and the PP. There is little reason to even consider putting Malkin on… Read more »
I do like 3 SS’s on separate lines because one of them will get a better match up against bottom 6 guys and 3rd pairing dmen.
I don’t know that I completely agree with the part about NB finally playing well, if you would have said that he is finally producing well I would completely agree but NB has been solid the majority of the season, the difference is that his assignment and the talent around him has change so the production has increase so everyone assumes he playing “better” but I think it’s more of a factor that he went from playing a role that had a heavy defensive focus to playing a role that has a heavy offensive focus.
Agreed, while the lack of O was a point of contention he was still doing things away from the puck that were helping more than hurting. Now that he has caught Sutter numbers putting that line of crap to rest no one should be upset with what he has done this year.
What a shame, 3 comments in and Sam has already ruined the conversation.
13-1 since malkin left for vacation
In 2011-2012 they went 36-20-7 through 63 games which was 103pt pace without Sid and that team didn’t have the American duo to elevate their play and carry the team during his absense, Malkin had to carry the team all on his own then.
