Who will put the biggest offer on the table to Kevin Shattenkirk?

Ray Shero and the New Jersey Devils or Jason Botterill and the Buffalo Sabres?

Rumblings are the Sabres are putting together a 7 year signing bonus heavy offer to Kevin Shattenkirk that could be north of $50 million.

The Devils who are making an aggressive sales pitch and also a finalist for Shattenkirk, will be in the same neighborhood.

Botterill vs Shero pegged to come in with the biggest offers and both could come up empty if Shattenkirk takes a lesser deal from a contender which is very much a possibility.

— The Penguins were informed Thursday morning that Trevor Daley was no longer considering them but with Penguins GM Jim Rutherford and agent Rich Curran very close, the Penguins started to know by Tuesday that Daley wouldn’t be returning.

Pittsburgh made a run at resigning Daley before the UFA interview period started and Daley smartly wanted to see what was out there and most believe he’s headed to Detroit on a three year deal.

However, there’s been some pushback that two other teams are still in the running, Boston one of them and Buffalo was also trying to make a play Wednesday.

Do the Penguins stand pat now?

Not likely.

Beyond Daley, the Penguins have been looking more at build your self up value type defenseman on the free agent market.

Sources say Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto will get consideration from the Penguins in free agency.

The Penguins had some interest in Del Zotto at the deadline and have talked with Del Zotto’s agent Mark Guy this week, but does a somewhat rocky relationship with Mike Sullivan during Del Zotto’s final season as a New York Ranger make Pittsburgh a destination Del Zotto will look to avoid?

I’m told it won’t be an impediment, though, the Penguins as of now are not a leading candidate for Del Zotto.

“We [hide] are exploring all options,” Guy said of heading into July 1. “Nothing specific yet,” he added about whether there’s expectations a deal can come together with the Penguins.

The sense is the Penguins see Del Zotto as another blueliner who could succeed behind this coaching staff.

If the price is right and it should be, he’s going to get consideration from them.

Del Zotto, though, will have options his camp contends and they may look to be patient. The goal looks to be a situation that can build his value up.

Another reason the Penguins could be connected to Moore…..

The Penguins looked into signing him during the summer of 2014 off the Rangers Cup Final run and again last summer there were discussions late into the summer between the Penguins and Moore while the Penguins waited for a decision from Matt Cullen. There’s been interest in the past so it won’t be a surprise if they reach out again.
