Health wise Byron Leftwich is coming along well from an MCL sprain, practicing three straight days this week and appears ready to return to game action next weekend against Tampa Bay.
However, the veteran quarterback is no longer on the Steelers roster after being released this morning to make room for defensive end Steve McLendon who was activated from the practice squad.
Leftwich though is expected to be resigned following Sunday’s game. Matt Dilorenzo of Pro Players Solutions who handles all of Byron “off the field” needs, told Inside Pittsburgh Sports via email just a few minutes ago that he feels Leftwich will be resigned on Monday.
Leftwich was previously signed through 2011, after agreeing to a one year extension last spring. His entire salary for this season is guaranteed.
Sunday’s Injury Report
Casey Hampton (hamstring), and Max Starks (ankle) are out for Sunday’s game.; Rookie WR Emmanuel Sanders (thigh), and OLB Jason Worilds (shoulder) are doubtful. Worilds had an impact on special teams in week 1, recording 3 tackles. Sanders will be replaced in the lineup by Antonio Brown who was inactive against Atlanta.
2nd year cornerback Keenan Lewis remains unlikely to be active against Tennessee after running with the scout team for most of the week. Cornerback Byron McFadden (groin) is probable
