THURSDAY’S STEELERS BUZZ
The Steelers offensive line was downright dominant vs the Baltimore Ravens and the big surprise was the play of right tackle Guy Whimper.
Whimper in 24 blocking opportunities allowed 1 sack and 1 hurry in the Steelers 19-16 win over Baltimore. A commendable job against the Ravens pass rush. The Steelers also gashed the Ravens on the ground rushing for 141 yards and the team had huge success running to the right side behind Whimper and David DeCastro who is starting to come into his own.
“Our motto around here is next guy up,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said of Whimper. “One of the reasons we were excited about bringing him to the Steelers was that he had some notches on his belt, had started a bunch of games in the NFL. We knew there was experience there and obviously ability. I thought the entire line played probably their best game of the year. We obviously need them to keep getting better and keep coming together and playing like that,” Haley said.
Will the starting-5 on the offensive line be status quo vs Raiders?
Signs point to no.

Haley called Whimper or Marcus Gilbert starting at right tackle a “head coach decision” but Gilbert said after practice today that he’s “in” at right tackle.
Gilbert’s play has been up and down this season, though, he’s a second round pick and the coaches felt prior to his quadriceps injury that he was coming on.
