Matt Cullen will not be part of the Penguins chasing a three peat for the 2017-2018 season.
The soon to be 41 year old will return for a 20th NHL season but it won’t be in Pittsburgh.

Cullen has agreed to sign with the Minnesota Wild. It was first reported by Michael Russo of Star Tribune.
Cullen weighed heavily last summer of staying home and signing with the Wild but Minnesota never made an offer and he resigned with the Penguins in August and went on to win a second Stanley Cup.
The Wild made it clear this summer to Cullen on July 1 that an offer would be on the table no matter how long he needed to take to make a decision.
Pittsburgh has long believed in recent weeks it was going to be the Minnesota or Team USA for Cullen.

I’ve read a couple places that RNH is being shopped and Wilson wrote an article discussing it. He has a steep cap hit but as he said, we’d be getting his prime years and have 3 legit scoring lines. He brought up sending Maatta that way in a straight up trade. Edm is looking to save cap space with the new LD offer, plus the Lucic one. I personally thought Maatta looked like he was skating in sand and swinging a wet noodle, so I’d be down for that deal even with the cap hit.
Then we have a huge hole to fill, it’s fixing one problem by creating another.

I listened to the podcast for the Kessel portion. I thought they pegged him spot on. No doubt the guy needed a change of scenery and was terribly misunderstood I’m Toronto. I love rooting for guys like him. He’s as close to an everyday guy you’re going to see in major professional sports.

There are rumours he won’t be signing with his draft team Colorado and is currently meeting with various teams. I have also heard rumours that the Penguins may or may not have a meeting with him this week. You know anything about this? I only ask because it seems like a decent story for August but we havent heard a mother fucken thing about it from this page in almost a month…

It’s not a huge loss. A 4c is very replaceable and he’s 40+ years old. Also, he already has 3 cups. What would be so bad about playing for the team you want to play for, knowing they will at least be in the playoffs? This comment is on yogurts level.
We’re all fans of the best team and franchise in the NHL, we probably all think we know “more about the Pens than anyone,” and we have different opinions. It’s not a huge loss at all.
He will be missed but lets not overstate it. He was a diminishing player that is better than what they currently have but not by so much that the sky is falling. His locker room presence and all around likability as a teammate is the bigger loss but the man on the ice can be replaced if JR can play his hand well.
