NATIONALS 6 – PIRATES 0
26 Pirates up, 26 down and Max Scherzer was on his way to throwing a perfect game with Jose Tabata only standing in his way.
With a 2-2 count, Scherzer within one strike of a perfect game threw a slider insider that clipped Jose Tabata’s elbow who leaned in, ending the perfect game bid.
Scherzer would then retire the next batter up, Josh Harrison, to throw the 6th no hitter in Nationals/Expos history.
It was a masterpiece from Scherzer who struck out 10 and after throwing a one-hitter in his previous outing, Scherzer has allowed one hit, one walk with 26 strikeouts over his last 18 innings pitched.
