Pirates, McCutchen agree to six year deal
The Pittsburgh Pirates and star centerfielder Andrew McCutchen have agreed on a new six year contract, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported early Monday morning.
The terms of the deal is a six year contract, worth $51.5 million that will buy out McCutchen’s remaining arbitration years and cover the first two free agency years for McCutchen, something the Pirates have stressed as a must since negotiations began early last summer.
The Post-Gazette reports there is a club option for the 2018 season worth $14.75 million that could extend the deal to seven years worth over $65 million.
McCutchen, 25, hit .259 last season with 23 home runs and 89 RBI’s.
