The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially named Mike Johnston head coach.
“Mike comes to Pittsburgh with great experience at all levels of hockey,” Jim Rutherford said in a released statement. “He has terrific knowledge of the game and proven leadership ability. His coaching style is going to be a good for the players we have here with the Penguins — it’s an up-tempo style, but it begins from deep in the defensive zone. We’re very excited to have him.”
Former Penguins Rick Tocchet has been named an Assistant Coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins will look to add one more assistant coach to the staff.
Tony Granato and Todd Reirden will not return to the Penguins’ staff. Jacques Martin will remain with the club in a yet-to-be-determined capacity.
Mike Bales (goaltending coach) and Andy Saucier (video coordinator) will both remain in their current roles.
