Cubs, Orioles, Angels among teams interested
Paul Kinzer, the agent for Matt Capps has told the Arizona Republic that seven or eight teams have inquired about his client, including the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Other known suitors include the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are reportedly looking at Capps in a set up role.
A source close to Capps tells me the Los Angeles Angels have also made an early inquiry.
Capps, 26, is believed to be eyeing a closer role but will have plenty of options in a set up role. He is seeking a salary in the range of $3.5 million.
Laroche seeking $10 million per season
In free agency there will always be some wild asking prices and one is coming from former Pirates 1B Adam Laroche who is seeking a three year deal and upwards of $30 million.
Laroche, 30, hit 25 home runs and 83 RBI's last season, splitting time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves.
Potential suitors for Laroche include the Mariners and Giants.
Bay to the Mets gaining steam
Jason Bay's camp grew frustrated with the Boston Red Sox inability to offer 5+ years and the former Pirate is believed to be ready to move on from Fenway.
The Red Sox offered a four year deal worth $60 million, but according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com, the Red Sox have no intention of offering Bay a fifth year.
The Mets have made an initial offer of 4 years - $63 million and many baseball insiders believe if the Mets go five years, Jason Bay will be a Met.
Bay has also drawn interest from the Giants and Mariners. Bay is believed to be extremely interested in joining the Mariners but they have yet to make a formal offer.
