Burres leading candidate?
The Pittsburgh Pirates are leaning towards recalling a starter from Triple-A Indianapolis for the start of Friday night’s series with the Washington Nationals.

Paul Maholm, Charlie Morton and James McDonald are scheduled to start in the three game series against Florida but the team has yet to announce a starter for Friday night against the Nationals.
Even with Ross Ohlendorf on the shelf for possibly up to a month, the team would still like to get Jeff Karstens back into his relief role.
Word out of the organization is that Brian Burres is the leading candidate but the team is still mulling the possibility of bringing up 2006 1st round pick Brad Lincoln.
The Pirates brass is said to be torn on whether to bring Lincoln up this quickly after not seeing much action during spring training.
Lincoln who took a step back last season, is 0-2 with a 4.66 ERA in 2 starts this season.
Burres (0-2) is off to a strong start, posting a 2.55 ERA in 17 2/3 innings pitched this season. The 30 year old journeyman has struck out 14 batters and walked just 5.
