The Penguins took the ice this morning at 11:00 a.m. and as expected head coach Michel Therrien made it through the weekend. Therrien and his staff are on the hot seat as the Penguins are 6-14 since December 1st.
Prior to this morning’s practice the Penguins re-assigned forward Tim Wallace who appeared in 13 games with the Penguins.
Forward Pascal Dupuis skated for the third time in four days and he is inching closer to a return. Dupuis has been sidelined with an ankle injury. Dupuis will be a game time decision following tomorrow’s morning skate.
The emphasis for the coaching staff over the weekend has been

What kind of system to implement to limit the amount of shots and goals the Penguins are giving up. The Penguins sort of went to a 1-4 system at times in Saturday’s game but it didn’t work. Today’s emphasis in practice was on gap control in the neutral zone.
The Front office has been calling for a more upbeat system with defensemen jumping up into the play to create some offense. At times in the first period against Colorado, the Penguins D were more active. Early in the game Ryan Whitney jumped up in the play and made a play behind the Av‚Äôs net which set up a Petr Sykora one timer. Minutes later Hal Gill made a nice pinch but the Penguins D are being too passive in the neutral zone and the Av’s were able to create offense and drive to the net with regularity once they got to the Penguins blueline.
