Insider Only Morning NHL Buzz: Shane Doan getting close to finalizing four year deal with Coyotes

Shane Doan’s decision about 10 days ago to give prospective Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison more time to bring in new investors after meeting with Jamison in person on July 29th appears likely to pay off in the long-run.
Word out of Doan’s camp late Wednesday night began to circulate that Doan is getting close to “putting pen on the paper” with a particular team, possibly by the end of the week, and that team is widely believed to be the Phoenix Coyotes with Greg Jamison finally making some headway on securing the sale of the franchise.

After being $20 million short to buy the team just a few weeks ago, the Sporting News reported yesterday that Jamison has secured enough money and investors to purchase the club from the NHL.
Doan’s agent Terry Bross expects to hear from Bill Daley and Jamison before the end of the business week, an individual close to the situation told Inside Pittsburgh late Wednesday night.
If things were to suddenly fall apart between Jamison and the Coyotes, which they always seem to do…. Doan has his sights set on playing for the New York Rangers and is comfortable with moving his family there, a source says. New York is the clear No. 2 option after Phoenix. Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Philadelphia have also made Doan’s shortlist but are looking like big long shots, unless one of the three teams were to blink and go four years.
All of this talk from Doan’s camp about getting multiple four year offers has been orchestrated to seek at least a four year offer from the Coyotes. Word is Doan had even been briefly discussing a five year deal with the Coyotes at one point.
