Browns coach Romeo Crennel and General Manager Phil Savage both could be on the hot seat, but changes probably won’t be made until after the season, a source close to the situation told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Both could lose their jobs – or both could keep them according to the paper. Crennel could go, and Savage could stay. Their seats both got hotter with Sunday’s 16-6 loss to the Texans and rumors are swirling that the benching of quarterback Brady Quinn did not sit well with ownership.
If Crennel is fired, the Browns are expected to make a strong pitch to lure former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher to Cleveland. It remains to be seen whether that pursuit has begun but a Browns official disputed a internet report that the Browns have already held discussions with Cowher. Cowher is believed to be seeking $8M-$10M per season with full control on personnel decisions.
