NFL: Report -- Steelers expected to place franchise tag on Casey Hampton

The Pittsburgh Steelers have until Thursday at 3:00 p.m., to place the franchise tag on nose tackle Casey Hampton and to no surprise Gerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette, reports that the Steelers will do so.

Barring an unexpected agreement on a long-term deal before Thursday's deadline, Hampton will be guaranteed a one year salary worth $7.003 million.

Casey Hampton previously said that placing the franchise tag on him is a slap in the face.

Lt is done in my opinion. I have very little interest in seeing him on the Steelers. The only thing that keeps his value above Parker's currently is the fact that his game was never built on speed like Parker's is, so his skills are eroding slower.

Hey Rothey....It's 2010 dude. LT pretty much began to fade after his 31 touchdown season. Mendenhall is better at every phase of the game, except maybe field vision. But seeing the holes won't help him much if he can no longer cut and get to them.

It's not 2006 anymore rothey. Emmit Smith, LJ, Priest Holmes, Shaun Alexander, Edjerrin James, the list goes on and on of what happens to running backs as soon as they hit this age. Yes, LT is better than all of those backs except Emmit, but he would have to work hard to be a starter in this league again, let alone an elite back in this league (or even THEE elite back as it seems you are trying argue)

I agree also, out of the free agents out there, LT has the best chance to start here, but it would take alot of work and a 31 year old back who has been run into the ground may not be able to do this. By the time they get that age they can just crash, see Parker and Alexander.

They don't sign people that don't draft unless it a great deal for the Steelers and spending money on LT to become the starter after drafting Mendy in the first round doesn't make sense. Even if you don't think he has potential, they have too much invested to admit that and sign another veteran RB (over 30) for any kind of real money.
