According to RDS.CA, Washington Capitals forward Sergei Fedorov will sign a two year deal worth $3.8 million per season with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League.
Fedorov recorded 11 goals and added 22 assists for 33 points with the Capitals during the regular season. In the playoffs, Fedorov scored one goal and eight points in 14 games.
Fedorov was among the games top players in the 1990’s winning three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings (1997, 1998, 2002).
It is believed that Fedorov may not be the only player off the Capitals roster who may bolt for Russia.
There has been speculation that Viktor Kozlov will entertain offers from teams in the Kontinental Hockey League.
