Capitals expected to target Pittsburgh’s Mark Eaton

A report in Canada surfaced two weeks ago that the Washington Capitals top target this off-season will be Ottawa Senators defenseman Anton Volchenkov.
The report from the Ottawa Sun indicated that the Capitals are prepared to meet Volchenkov’s demands of $5 million per season.
Tarik El Bashir of the Washington Post reports there’s no truth to the Capitals/Volchenkov rumors and Bashir reports that the Capitals are not going to make an offer to Volchenkov.
Sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports, the Capitals are expected to target lesser affordable players with Pittsburgh’s Mark Eaton believed to be high on their radar.
Although Volchenkov will be among the most highly sought players in free agency, the general consensus is that his demands are going to have to come down.
The Senators are already trying to shop his rights.
