LATEST ON CHUCK KOBASEW
Organizational meetings between Ray Shero and his staff the next couple days is going to center around the backup goaltender position (more on that later) and Chuck Kobasew who is in camp on a PTO.
When it comes to Kobasew, a decision on whether to try to sign him is expected to come in the next 48 hours, a source says.

Who makes the final call?

Despite the cap situation, the final call is expected to be made by head coach Dan Bylsma. Those I’ve talked to have called Kobasew a Bylsma type of player and I’m told if Bylsma wants Kobasew on the roster, management will move a player to get him on.
That player could very well be Dustin Jeffrey who despite being on a 1-way contract, is not a lock to make the roster. Pittsburgh could shop Jeffrey or place him on waivers to open up a spot for Kobasew.
The Penguins have been impressed with Kobasew’s overall game and the organizations pro scouts had a good recommendation of Kobasew last spring I’m told.
Kobasew made $1.250 million last season and will likely have to accept a deal about half of that if the Penguins move forward and try to sign him.
