The Boston Bruins have received a lot of calls about the availability of center Patrice Bergeron and goaltender Manny Fernandez. Bergeron is off to a relatively slow start — 17 points in 29 games but he missed most of the 2007-2008 campaign and his game is still rounding into shape. Despite the play of center David Krejci (29 points in 30 games), the Bruins are not that interested in moving Bergeron. Still, expect his name to pop up during the trade deadline as the Bruins are looking to acquire a #1 or #2 defenseman.
The Bruins have inquired about Jay Bouwmeester
Rumors continue to swirl that Marian Gaborik and Marian Hossa will look to be a packaged deal next summer. There is some truth to that but don’t expect it to happen. MarKus Naslund and Pavel Demitra tried it this past summer and had no luck. Vancouver is getting mentioned as a team that could make a play for both players
The Flyers are in a very good position. When Daniel Briere comes back it gives the Flyers a lot of options. They will likely shop Joffrey Lupul for help on the blueline.
Sources continue to tell me that Hossa is very interested in joining the Boston Bruins in free agency. This past summer, the Red Wings and Bruins were Hossa’s top choices.
A shakeup could be coming in Ottawa. Unless things turn around, Chris Neil, Antoine Vermette will continue to be shopped around the league. Jason Spezza’s name continues to come up but Murray is not actively shopping him. Mike Fisher is a player to keep an eye on.

The Blackhawks inquired about Spezza a few weeks ago and were turned away by Bryan Murray.
As I’ve been mentioning for a while, Don Waddell the Thrashers General Manager would love to make a play for Marian Gaborik. The two sides have been scouting each other but trading for Gaborik doesn’t make much sense. Gaborik would bolt during free agency. I don’t see Atlanta’s ownership signing off on this and Waddell is on the hot seat.
Nonetheless Minnesota has been scouting Colby Armstrong and Slava Kozlov.
The Thrashers remain high on Armstrong.
The NJD Devils and LA Kings remain very interested in Gaborik.
Blackhawks GM Dave Tallon has explored the trade market for Martin Havlat but the Hawks will likely remain in the playoff hunt throughout the season and they won’t find equal return for Havlat at the trade deadline.
Sources tell me the Washington Capitals have inquired about Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas
It’s 12:30 P.M. and Mats Sundin has yet to pick a team…….
