8470775 SOURCES: PENS EYE THOMPSON TO BOLSTER DEPTH/PK

The Penguins looking to bolster their third and fourth lines, are interested in Lightning forward Nate Thompson, Inside Pittsburgh Sports has learned.
The 28 year old forward has 5 goals and 8 points on the season. Regarded by executives as one of the top role players likely to become available, Thompson is versatile with the ability to play center/wing, and brings a gritty two-way play to the table and is second among Lightning forwards with 45 hits in 23 games.
One thing that’s becoming a common theme is word on players Penguins are targeting (aside from top-6 forward) is players who can chip in on the penalty kill. Thompson leads all Lightning forwards in ice time per game shorthanded.
Executives predict the asking price for Thompson will be a second round pick or NHL ready prospect.
Thompson is an unrestricted free agent at seasons end.
