NHL: Penguins looking to move Fedotenko; Teams expressing interest

The Pittsburgh Penguins remain active in trying to move salary in attempt to upgrade their roster and according to sources, the team is actively looking to trade forward Ruslan Fedotenko.

Fedotenko, 31, has 8 goals and 22 points on the season along with a team worst minus-12 rating.

According to a source, Fedotenko's agent met with a Penguins front office member this weekend in Montreal.

Fedotenko has a cap of hit of $1.8 million and has drawn interest around the league. Among the teams to make inquiries include the Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings, and Minnesota Wild. It's believed former Penguins assistant GM Chuck Fletcher is highly interested in acquiring Fedotenko and keeping him beyond this season.

Pittsburgh is in talks of trading Fedotenko and an unknown defenseman in separate deals before the February 12th roster freeze to finalize a deal with the

seems like moving/giving up a lot to get torres. especially considering he's gone at seasons end. maybe clearing the cap space will help... in shero we trust i guess.

I don't think Dallas would move a 20 yr. old winger with tons of potential. I think Steve Ott is more realistic.

I am not too familiar with Torres, but why do we want him? I read he has 26pts, a -9, and a cap hit of 2.25 mil (obviously prorated)

I don't know much about Torres either, I don't have Center Ice anymore so I can't watch CBJ...Just get rid of Fedotenko, I don't care who for.

I wouldn't look too much into Torres' +/-...that's more indictative of the Blue Jackets (Umberger -16 and Nash is -11) Torres' -9 is actually better than most on the Jackets.

Depends what the pick is...Jeffrey is basically useless on the NHL level. Although I'm not sure if he's a significant upgrade over Feds....I see Go-Go being moved at the draft when they have a better idea of the Gonchar/Letang situations. McKee probably gets moved and I hope we upgrade over him with a more physical D-man.

I usually defended McKee but after watching him get pushed around by Gionta today, I can't anymore. He seems like a good team guy and everything, but his play has gone significantly downhill since early in the season.

when healthy he is a strong/physical power forward... playing on a good team he would put up 30 goals. probably 50-55 pts he's a rental that they might try to resign if he fits. a great guy to take over what was our ryan malone position. not quite that level... but we aren't making big moves with our cap space i guess. he's 28, and had a good couple playoffs. would def. benefit from playing on a quality team. oh and he looks like he should be an mma fighter.

I just got a Lemieux jersey in the mail yesterday...maybe if I send a nice letter he will come back and take Feds' spot. Even a grey beard has got to do better than a -12. I would even vote to bring back Gary Roberts..he was kind've the Chuck Norris of the NHL

LOL at Shawn's post. A good power forward? The guy is a plugger. Apparently one we're overpaying for, in a pick AND jeffrey - we pay top dollar for mediocre talent I guess. Shero must be on a quest to collect the most third line wingers in the league.

it's not just pick and jeffrey it's moving feds and d-man. all of which may end up being beneficial in the long run anyway. but what do you want shero to do? he's not getting a top line guys cuz there aren't enough available... and what is available is way out of our price range. so make the upgrades that help the team... torres would do that. and after he scores a couple goals... and parks a guy or two on their waller you will be out there buying his jersey and coming up with chuck norris jokse like the everyone else.

he hit 20 goals in his rookie season... and 27 in his first full year. the first year was a mediocre edmonton team that failed to make the playoffs. 27 the year they were mediocre and still made the cup finals. he put up decent numbers in the playoffs. had some injury issues for a couple years and. WHEN HEALTHY, (like i said) can be productive. especially on a good team. he's got 16 goals with a weak team already this season. which would be good enough for 3rd on our current roster. he has 26 pts. again on a weak team. tell me i overvalue this guy all you want... but pascal freaking dupuis is our best choice on the top line now. and feds is our best second line option (and top line on a regular basis) this guy would be an upgrade over EVERY winger on our team except maybe guerin. who, by the way, he would probably outperform if he was on our top line.

i've never picked him out as "the guy" i want to go after... but if you need to upgrade your team.. and can only afford so much... he is just that... better than what you have. we can't expect to land some big name that's gonna shake it up and be a savior. we can expect to get better... this guy would do that. end of story.

So the Pens are in on Raffi Torres @ $2.25mm but are not in on Poni @ $2.1mm because of cap reasons... I don't get it at all. Ok say the Leafs want a first rounder why not give it to them? With any luck they will be picking in the last four picks of the draft anyway. Also in the NHL it takes so damn long for these prospects to turn into a possible NHL player what's the difference?

My problem with Torres is not what he has done or what he could do. Everyone says Columbus is a weak team, their record may be but there roster is not. Rick Nash, Jakub Voracek, Antoine Vermette, Derick Brassard and RJ Umberger are all good players fome of them great players. They also have a really good mix of Vets like Huselius (overpaid sure) Samuel Pahlsson and Fredrik Modin. So my problem is if he does not play that well with good players already what makes anyone think he would do better playing on a team with less forward depth than the Blue Jackets have?

so he's a half a mill more than feds (over the whole year... would be pro-rated if we picked him up obviously) and he brings double the goals and a better +/- even though he's on a bad team. to think he wouldn't do better here is crazy. if we're moving feds and a d-man and sending the pick/jeffrey... i would assume we're looking at upgrading at d too. again.. not big name.. but at least a decent defensive d-man.

Dreger is reporting that the Leafs are looking for a 2nd round pick but may ask for Pittsburgh's first because they should be drafting late in the 1st.

first... don't tell me you think cbj's lineup is anywhere near on par with ours. they have some talent.. but obviously not enough. that said HIS NUMBERS ARE BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE. what it boils down to is this.. plain and simple.. will he help us win more games being on our team than what we have. simple answer.. yes. i'd much rather go after poni. i'm sure shero would too.. and the reason he's not... because everyone else thinks it's a good idea too. they can, and will, get too much for him. he just won't give up that much. same as he won't give up a 1st + for whitney. torres is a much more reasonable upgrade. does he make the moves? who knows... he might pull something crazy out and blow us all away. but if it's torres or no deal.. you make the moves cuz he is an upgrade.. and makes our team better.

that's what i'm saying to you... read what i said fool. TORRES IS BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE. our wingers suck.. picking up this guy is an upgrade. he will help cuz he is better than what we have... they are strong on wing. we're strong on center.. luckily our staff has enough knowledge to probably let him continue playing wing.. so he can play with one of our really talented centers. the likes of which columbus doesn't have. in fact.. nobody in the league has. jordan staal would arguably be their best center. (if he played with a top line all season) that's why he will do better here. he goes from being the 4-5th best winger on their team to being our 2nd maybe best winger on ours.

with three first class centers, a great goalie and two d men with fairly big contracts we cant afford to get all these huge top six wingers with big salaries as long as we keep our core players here we wont be able to get one anytime soon so ppl should accept the fact that were always gonna have some grinders and pluggers with not much skill on the fiist two lines it doesnt mean were still not a great team

I'm cool without the top 6 forwards, I would just like guys that look like they are trying out there unlike Feds on the top 2 lines. The other guys like Dupuis, Kunitz, Rupp aren't top two lines IMO but they are trying their asses off every shift. Feds isn't that type of player, he lacks effort on both sides of the ice.

I like Jordan Staal, we have yet to see his full potential but you can not in your wildest dreams believe he is better than Rick Nash right now can you? The blue jackets hated there coach and hated his system gee I remember a certain Pens team that went through this luckily Shero realized it and fired Therian. Columbus is bad defensively and Mason is going through a sophomore slump. Staal will be awesome but I don't think he is quite as good as Nash yet.

I really don't have a problem with Torres but if we could get Poni I'd be down with that more. Personally I don't see Jeffrey ever playing on the Pens and give them the conditional draft pick. I think that's a good deal, and there's no reason why he couldn't be resigned if they wanted him.

Feds has been an inconsistent player his entire career so its pretty up to par. We got what we paid for and thats a guy that shows up to the big games.

This big game reputation for Feds is getting blown out of control. Yes he's had two good playoff runs, but he's also had 4 or 5 bad playoff runs where he scored 1 or less points. Yes his teams went one round those occasions but he was playing a top 6 role and didn't contribute.

I would just love to see a true scorer play with any of the Centers in Pitts lineup. Hossa was the closest thing we have seen, maybe Jagr will have a good showing at the Olympics and then make his way back to the NHL to play with the Pens again and all will be right in the universe lol.

Don't forget that for about 40 games he got nothing but 1/2 line time, and was moved to the third line because he wasn't producing consistnetently, but again, lets not let the facts get in the way. As for Torres - its rather debateable if hes even an upgrade. The guy collectively has 4 more points than Fedotenko. Staggering numbers.

on hockey, i know some say you dont have to react, i say you do, which is a whole other argument. but given NJ's move for Kovy i say you have to re prioritize and counter with putting all your efforts into upgrading the D, let the wing situation go bc scoring is fine for us in the playoffs. clearing the net and nuetrilizing ovie, kovy, gaborik, is where we need to improve
