NHL: Pens, Bruins and Rangers in the mix for Guerin?
Source: Three teams at the top of Guerin’s wishlist
Bob Murray the agent for veteran forward Billy Guerin remains in constant contact with Penguins GM Ray Shero. However, the Penguins aren’t ready to push forward in talks with Guerin and Guerin is not ready to drop his demands of a 1 year deal worth $1.5 million with incentives that could make the deal worth as much as $2 million.
In the past week, Murray has been actively trying to finalize the framework of a one year deal with the Boston Bruins.
Despite having limited cap space, Boston has expressed a strong interest in bringing Guerin on board. The Bruins expect to move cap space in the coming weeks and word out of Guerin’s camp is that talks could progress after the arbitration period.
The three teams at the top of Guerin’s wishlist is Pittsburgh, Boston and the New York Rangers. Boston and Pittsburgh are his top two choices, while New York is a distant third.
Indications are the Rangers appear out after expressing early interest. Guerin still owns a home in New York and tried to orchestrate a trade to the Rangers prior to the 2009 trade deadline.
Pittsburgh remains somewhat on the fence about bringing back Guerin. The team wants him back but at the lowest possible price. Guerin has informed the Penguins he will give them the opportunity to match any offer.
