NHL: Gomez traded to Montreal

The New York Rangers have traded Scott Gomez, winger Tom Pyatt and defenceman Mike Busto from the New York Rangers in exchange for winger Chris Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko according to USA Today Hockey Insider Kevin Allen.

The Rangers have now cleared $5.4 million in cap space.

This move lets the Rangers push forward to trade for Dany Heatley or enter the free agent market and go after the likes of Marian Hossa, Marian Gaborik and Martin Havlat.

Then get several guys at 4 million - you don't grab the most overpaid guy over $7 million that you can. You got a 60-70 point center who's scored over 20 goals once in his career - you can find guys just like that for a fraction of his salary.

Montreal are total idiots for making this deal. They not only took on a long and overpaid salary, but moved a young player in Higgins and included McDonagh which is just asinine. If this doesn't put Gainey out of a job, nothing will.

they will need to give up a lot of assets to aquire heatley and it won't be cheap go at it they still will not even be a worry none of the above mentioned free agent are going to the rangers for that kind of money which they can recieve elsewhere
