Talks off to a good start
Contract talks between the Penguins and C Sidney Crosby’s agent are progressing nicely, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “They’re going in the right direction,” Pat Brisson, Crosby’s agent, told the Posst-Gazette. The amount of money per season isn’t the issue it’s the amount of year. 5-7 years has been the rumor of late


Gerber a tough sell?
Senators GM Bryan Murray has held talks with the Kings and Coyotes about trading G Martin Gerber but still hasn’t had any luck, according to the Ottawa Sun.
The two years and $7.4M remaining on Gerber’s contract remain appears to be a deal killer. the Coyotes had been rumored to have asked the Senators to take defenseman Derek Morris and his $3.9 million salary for next season as part of the deal. Potential Suitors: 1. Kings, 2. Coyotes, 3. Lightning, 4. Blues

Plan B for the Oilers?
After the Sabres matched the Oilers 7yr – 50 million offer sheet to Thomas Vanek, rumors are swirling the Oilers will offer Zach Parise a 6yr – 30 million dollar offer sheet. Stay tuned.



Rangers looking to trade Matt Cullen
The Rangers are still holding out hope to sign Sheldon Souray and they are looking to move Matt Cullen to clear some cap space according to sources.


Canucks inquire about Lindros
Eric Lindros has not received a guarnteed contract yet but the Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres have inquired about the former #1 pick.

Teemu to Retire?
Save those retirement plans just yet. It was a foregone conclusion Selanne would retire or return Anaheim. Right? Not so fast. Forsberg returing to brotherly love?

Plan B for Rangers and Devils
Danny Markov has not received an offer since he turned down a 3 year deal from the Chicago Blackhawks. His price demands are very high at the moment. The New Jersey Devils remain a possibility if they miss out on Sheldon Souray. Sources indicate Markov is seeking a deal similar to Cory Sarich 3.6 million per season on a 2-3 year deal. Interested teams: 1.New Jersey, 2.NY Islanders, 3.Buffalo Sabres and NY Rangers.

After missing out on Slava Kozlov the Dallas Stars are expected to up their pursuit of Alexei Yashin. The Toroto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild are also in hot pursuit of Yashin


Morris to Pittsburgh?
An unidentified source who covers the Phoenix Coyotes is confirming the Penguins and Yotes have held talks regarding defenseman Derek Morris. No sources in Pittsburgh are confirming a deal is close. Jovo to waive his no trade clause?
The Phoenix Coyotes are trying to unload Ed Jovanoski’s bloated contract and have asked him to waive his no trade clause. The Yotes are talking to the Rangers and Islander. The New York Islanders reportedly have a deal on the table to acquire Jovanoski but Jovo apparently will not waive his trade clause for Long Island but will waive his no trade clause to go the Rangers. The Rangers are rumored to have offered goaltender Al Montoya out of Michigan University.

Guerin gauging plenty of interest
Up to ten teams have inquired about rw Bill Guerin including the Senators, Rangers, Red Wings, Sharks, Canucks, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Islanders, Sabres, Blues and Hurricanes. Despite lots of interest Guerin has only received two offers. He recently turned down a 2yr – 7 million offer from the NYI but they remain interested. Guerin who made 2 million last season is seeking 4 million per season after a 35 + goal season. Sources say Guerin is scarying teams away with his demands. His price is rumored to have dropped but teams are still not biting. Ottawa is believed to have a offer on the table but it is under 4 million per season. According to the Boston Hearald the Bruins are interested in brining Guerin back to the fold. “It’s finding the right fit with the term and money and place to play” Guerins agent Bob Murray told the Providence post. Updated: Guerin has signed with the NYI. 2yrs – 9 million

RW Glen Murray is available if any team wants to take over the two years at $4.15M per season left on his contract, according to the Boston Herald.


Lundqvists seeking Long term deal
Hennrik Lundqvist’s agent, Don Meehan, warned the Rangers they wouldn’t be wise to take the restricted free agent goalie to arbitration instead of locking him up to a long-term deal, according to The New York Post. It is rumored the two sides were talking about a 5yr extension worth 4.5-5 million per season. That was before the Rangers went on a spending frenzy in free agency.


Reports out of Canada are indicating the Montreal Canadiens have offered rw Mike Ryder and a 1st round pick for Patrick Marleau. The deal could hinge on Marleau signing a long term extension.



Kovy back on the block?
The Montreal Canadiens are willing to listen to offers for disgruntled right winger Alexei Kovalev but a source says the draft was the time for a team to step up and nab Kovalev. CKGM Team 990 is speculating the Canadiens price has risen due to the fact the Canadiens did not bring a big name player via free agency. The Penguins and Capitals were talks with the Habs regarding Kovalev during this last months draft.
