Pens searching for scoring winger

Will the Penguins take a chance on Alexei Kovalev rejuvenating his career with Pittsburgh? Chatter around the league this past weekend is that executives think it’s a strong possibility.
“I think everyone in the NHL believes they will end up with Alexei Kovalev because he always played his best hockey in Pittsburgh. He was very popular with fans, ” highly respected writer Kevin Allen of the USA Today wrote this weekend.
Kovalev, 37, has 11 goals and 12 assists on the season in . Kovalev is playing better of late, collecting 3 goals and 2 assists in his last three games.
The Penguins and Senators have been scouting each other quite often over the past couple weeks. However, Kovalev was not on the Penguins radar before the Malkin injury. The asking price is low, according to sources.
Sources close to the Penguins knowledge of thinking tell me the Penguins plan of attack remains very much in the “preliminary stages” at this point.
