NHLPA fires union boss Paul Kelly

There is a major shakeup once again for the NHL Players Association. Executive director Paul Kelly has been fired after a meeting conducted by the 30-member NHLPA executive board on Monday.

Kelly was hired in October 2007 following the firing of Ted Saskin.

A successor has not been named.

Hopefully this doesn't lead to another lockout as some have speculated.

NHLPA is not happy with a number of things. It's going to be tough negotiations, especially if the cap goes down to the lower 50's this year.

If there is another lockout, Bettman needs to go, no questions asked. I used to side with the league on a number of issues, but the more I see Bettman work on things publicly, like the sale in Phoenix and the handling of the TV contracts, the less I like him. I'm now of the belief that he is bad for the game and has set it back with some really poor decisions in the past and an unwillingness to admit mistakes and make them right (other than removing the glow-puck and Fox).

What does this mean for the league? Bettman is pretty bad, Phoenix?? The TV contracts, but it's kind of sad that VS puts a better broadcast together than NBC, and he lets NBC rape him at any opportunity....
