Agent waiting to find out Penguins timing to start negotiations
The Pittsburgh Penguins focus over the next two-three weeks is expected to be on defenseman Sergei Gonchar who is set to become a free agent on July 1, 2010.
However, no official talks have been scheduled yet between Penguins GM Ray Shero and J.P. Barry the agent for Sergei Gonchar.
According to a league source, Barry intends to speak to Shero in the next couple days to find out what the Penguins timing is to start negotiations.
Gonchar, 36, signed a 5 year deal worth $25 million in the summer of 2005. The All-Star defenseman made $5.5 million in 2009-2010 and is believed to be the Penguins No. 1 priority this off-season.
