• Olli Maatta sidelined since December 6th with a shoulder injury, the same shoulder he had surgery on in May and might need it again at somepoint, sources say, is skating on his own, but his return is now not considered close. On December 27th, Penguins head coach Mike Johnston said Maatta was expected to return within four weeks but Maatta’s timetable for a return is now expected to be pushed back. “It’s still a ways away,” Johnston said of Maatta returning to the lineup. “We thought it would be a month or five weeks,” Johnston said. “It seems to be slowing down. We’ll see where their evaluation is over the next 10 days or so.” Maatta has been dealing with recurring pain for over two months in his surgically repaired shoulder.
