The Pittsburgh Penguins were active in trade talks today prior to Friday’s 3:00 p.m. deadline but as expected they didn’t make any moves.
The Penguins were very aggressive this afternoon in their pursuit of Columbus Blue Jackets winger Raffi Torres who is also being actively pursued by the Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins.
Inability to move cap space earlier in the week prevented the Penguins from making a deal for Torres but the framework of their offer is in place, sources indicate
Pittsburgh will go into the olympic break with an open mind and will be very active in trade talks. They have yet to engage in serious talks with the Carolina Hurricanes about Ray Whitney or the Toronto Maple Leafs about Alexei Ponikarovsky
A primary focus for management during the Olympic will be on
moving salary as the team is hopeful to add a defenseman and an forward before the March 3rd deadline.
Pre-Olympic break their focus was on Torres but that could change as interest in rising in the rugged winger.
more to come
