There is a serious disconnect in the Penguins organization on how to attack the rest of the season when it comes to upgrading the roster.
Some in the organization feel spots need to be opened for young forwards like Dominik Simon who continues to get rave reviews in Wilkes Barre, and the only type of trades the team should be looking at is contract for contract type trades.
Examples include like trading David Perron for another forward or defenseman on an expiring contract.
Jim Rutherford is said to have much different plans.

When MAF gets back it’ll be to late, this Pens squad wil not be making the playoffs. Who cares anyway? No chance they get out of the 1st round with that sieve of a defense.
Pens next 5 games will determine what direction. They will be going this season if they win 3 out of 5 there is still hope if they win 4 out of 5 they will most likely make the playoffs with momentum if they win 1 or 2 out of 5. Then this team will be a mess and bandwagon will be falling from the cliff starting with fatso npl and his entertaining hot dog cart
After the next 5 games, they’ll have 41 games left to right the ship. They could go 0-5 and still have enough time to correct issues. 5 points behind the devils with 2 games in hand, 2 points behind tampa with 2 games in hand, 4 points behind ottawa with 2 games in hand. I think we’re over reacting a little bit. Try to relax and enjoy the games….have a beer, watch with friends etc.

I actually thought the pens game was very entertaining and that’s what i’m after. While I may not agree with Sullivan 100%, the game he has them playing is way more entertaining than the game MJ had them playing. At least they’re moving in the right direction.

i’m kind of hoping the pens lose the next 5. the sooner rutherford gets fired the better. it’s unreal how he assembled a street hockey team to compete in the NHL. he needs to go!
I’m not a big Rutherford fan, but a lot of the trades and signings made a lot of sense at the time. Getting Bonnino and a pick from the Nucks for Sutter was a good deal IMO. I liked the Fehr signing, especially at that price. The Kessel trade was also a really good one, at least at the time, especially considering our 1st turns into a 2nd if we miss the playoffs. the pens play the redwings, the isles, the blackhawks twice and then montreal. it’s going to be a tough 5 game stretch. it sucks so bad that they will be lucky to win 1.

i hate to say it, but i fear letang’s career will be over by february. that dude needs to retire before he turns into justin strzelczyk. the dude has a cup, a beatiful wife, a kid, and millions. no reason to risk his health at this point.
the best case scenario is for the pens to lose 20 in a row. that way rutherford won’t trade the kids at the deadline for has been wingers because the pens will be out of the mix. if the pens are around 9th or 10th place at the deadline rutherford will trade murray and sprong and then get eliminated in round 1 at best. the pens are not a win now team. they need to blow it up.

Yoda, part of me agrees only because I just dont see this team winning a cup this season regardless of what deals JR makes. Not at all for trading prospects, at least guys who are on the cusp of getting some nhl time. Sometimes times you need to take a step back and load your gun.
