- The Washington Capitals this morning announced that the team has agreed to a 10 year extension with star center Nicklas Backstrom. The deal is worth $67 million over 10 years, averaging out to a cap hit of $6.7 million per season.
- Backstrom had a phenomenal 2009-2010 season for the Capitals, scoring 33 goals and 68 assists for 101 points, including a plus 37 rating. Backstrom added 9 points in 7 playoff games for the Capitals.
- The Capitals now have Ovechkin and and Backstrom signed for the next 10+ years with a comined cap hit of $15.798 million.
