The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealt a serious blow, this time to their blueline. Defenseman Brooks Orpik, the Penguins No. 1 defenseman, is expected to be sidelined for approximately a 4-to-6 week period due to a hand injury, a source close Orpik tells Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
6 weeks being a cautious outlook I’m told.
GM Ray Shero tells Rob Rossi of the Tribune-Review that Orpik will be “out for a while”, but that the team expects Orpik to be back this season.

What’s being relayed to me is that the team expects Orpik to be back just before the start of the playoffs or at least that’s the expectation based off the intitial diagnosis. Head coach Dan Bylsma is expected to give exact details on Orpik’s situation following today’s practice.
