Penguins winger Pascal Dupuis will no longer play hockey because of his medical condition related to blood clots, the Penguins announced this afternoon.

During the San Jose game Dupuis suffered chest pains [hide] and all parties involved decided Monday that playing was no longer in the best interest of Dupuis long-term health.

“Despite playing on a medical protocol that has worked for other players in the NHL, we feel that the risk of Pascal playing with his condition and the side effects of the tests to monitor him are just not in the best interest of his long-term health,” said Dr. Dharmesh Vyas in a released statement on the Penguins official site.

It’s good to see the right medical decision to be made and can’t imagine the anxiety Dupuis’ family had to be dealing with on a daily basis. Dupuis coming back to play this season was extremely dangerous as evident by him being now being shutdown for his career.

Dupuis will be placed on long-term injured reserve through the end of his contract. Dupuis is in the third year of a four year contract. The Penguins will still pay Dupuis the remaining salary he is owed for this season and next but he won’t count against the cap moving forward as the team gets needed cap space.[/hide]
