• Barring a deep playoff run, Pedro Alvarez’s season is likely over. The Pirates today announced Alvarez has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in the fourth metatarsal of his left foot. Alvarez is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks. Alvarez’s future with the club will be a hot topic this off-season. The 27 year old third baseman turned first baseman lost his starting job to Josh Harrison due to throwing errors and continued inconsistencies at the plate, batting 231/.312/.405 in 122 games. Alvarez made 4.25 million this season and is eligible for arbitration. He is under the Pirates control for two more seasons.
