flyers FLYERS 4 – PENGUINS 1
Tank for Connor McDavid at this point?
The Penguins missing the post-season is a reality but Pittsburgh’s first round pick goes to the Edmonton Oilers, so that scenario is a moot point.
The Penguins 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, saw the Flyers sweep the season series and means a Senators win tonight vs the Maple Leafs would give the Senators an opportunity to leap frog the Penguins in the standings with a win in Tuesday’s showdown vs Pittsburgh.
On February 8 the Penguins were 19 points ahead of the Senators. The Penguins are now just three points ahead of the Senators. The Senators with four games remaining, including one vs the Penguins, control their destiny in making the post-season.
The Penguins in today’s loss peppered Steve Mason with 47 shots, but it was a typical Penguins game, taking careless stick penalties to put the Flyers on the power play and struggling to defend the Flyers cycle.
The dagger in the Penguins heart was a goal by Ryan White with 4:55 left in regulation to put the Flyers up 3-1 as Ben Lovejoy and Blake Comeau were caught in no mans land as both were puck watching and Sean Couturier found a wide open White in front for the goal.
