Is the perfect young player for young player trade where both players need a change of scenery there for the taking from the Penguins end?

How about Beau Bennett for Jarred Tinordi?
The Montreal Canadiens frustrated with the slow progress of Tinordi, their 2010 first round pick, have been actively shopping Tinordi in recent weeks, eyeing a forward with upside and team control in return.
It’s the same story with Bennett in Pittsburgh who will start the season on the fourth line, if Pascal Dupuis is healthy enough to play, and with Daniel Sprong’s emergence, is not even playing on the second power play unit as the Penguins are leaning towards having two separate No. 1 units.
Bennett needs a change of scenery and Jim Rutherford knows it, but hasn’t been able to find the right deal.
Trade rumors have only increased surrounding Tinordi being moved for a forward with Zack Kassian suffering a broken nose and a broken left foot in a car accident Sunday, reportedly crashing into a tree on Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m and the concern in the Canadiens organization is that Kassian might have been under the influence.
“I’m a firm believer in character, and that’s really a lack of character and judgment on his part,” Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin told reporters today of Kassian.
“I do not have all the information, but it is disappointing to say the least. “You have to be respectful. You’re lucky to be hockey players.”
Tinordi doesn’t fit Mike Johnston’s system when it comes to high-end puck skills but has great size (6-foot-6), intimidation qualities and strong skating ability.
There is still this sense from those in NHL circles that Tinordi has a chance to blossom into a lockdown defenseman but is one of those players who just needs a change of scenery at this point in his career.
“Jarred has a chance to take off in the right situation,” an Eastern Conference scout said.[/hide]
It’s a fairly even trade overall if Tinordi pans out. Also, Scuderi and Rust for NYI Clutterbuck? Keep Perron, he’s a lot younger than Kunitz. Somebody with injuries might take Lovejoy, I hope. Boston’s looking for Def. I wish we had enough assets to Big Dustin Buf from Wpg. Good luck.
Tinordi, Like Schenn and Jared Cowan all have the same perceived issues as they all at one time were compared to a “Scott Stevens” type D. Well he was an elite beast but 50% of his physicality and hits would be illegal in today’s game.
So if all these guys just turn out to be crease clearing 5-6 D men. So what, you still need players like that in today’s NHL.
Actually, the goal in “today’s NHL,” is to possess the puck 80% of the time so that there’s no need to clear said crease.
Tinordi has amazing tape to tape passes to the other teams stick that always ends up in teams own net. Last 2 example was vs sens.
Habs gm told him stay away from Montreal night life. Now team will punish him a few games as well
Kassim wasn’t even during it was a 20 year old girl driving his pickup
Maybe because he was too drunk to drive???? I have always liked this kid but trust me. He needs help soon or his career will be short
Dupuis hurt. I assume that means Farnham will be in the lineup. Bad news all around.
Tinordi and his potential > Lovejoy who does nothing above average…..nothing.
Being better than someone that sucks doesn’t make it a sensible move. Certainly not to give up a Bennett for.
Stanch. I really like Bennett and appreciate the work he’s put in over the off-season, and it shows. But the bottom line is I want more for the kid then a fourth line limited role, he’s a great playmaker for a right winger. So if we can add strength to our weakness and give him a shot in another organization to blossom, I’m all for it.
Strength to our weakness does not equate to “doesn’t fit into the system” just because he’s “better than Lovejoy.” It’s like saying sam runs fast for a fat kid.
Pittsburgh isn’t the right situation for anyone under 25 trying to find their game.
Here’s the problem I see with this scenario and why I think it would be a horrible move. The quote at the end hit the nail on the head “Jarred has the chance to take off IN THE RIGHT SITUATION”, Pittsburgh is not the “right situation” because he’s a horrible fit in MJ’s system, putting a struggling young player in a difficult situation isn’t a good recipe for that young player breaking out, even worse is giving up a young player that does fit and does have a chance to breakout in the system. I actually like Tinordi a lot… Read more »
I really have nothing to add. My thoughts exactly.
And if you remember I shared information last year that Kassian was a drunk. 🙂
Interesting because a situation like this is exactly why management wanted Despres out of town.
I had information that confirmed Kassian was an alcoholic, he needs rehab. I have never heard anything but innuendo from a source that said Despres had a drinking problem. Maybe he did or does but hearsay is different than fact.
When the hearsay comes directly from the mouth of a prominent front office exec whose name rhymes with Whorehouse I tend to believe it.
I have said this for the last 3 months……just saying 🙂
I didn’t get the sense that bennett’s playing time and role were mis-managed. I see him starting on the 4th line but I was understanding that bennett assumed personal responsibility for that result; more so injuries then attitude. I’m not around the team every day and I think someone that was could know better – but I think Bennett can revive his career in pittsburgh and it seems he is on track if preseason production counts for anything.
…………………other than the part about rushing him to the NHL as GMJR has agreed with
I would rather see Bennett traded than Perron. I think this team certainly has room for Perron in the top 9 at the very least.
“6’6 with intimidation qualities” – Flyers perk up
“can skate” – Flyers no longer interested
6’6″? Must be good.
