āReturn Saluteā Debuts on Veteransā Day -- Wednesday at 10 p.m.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to be part of a āReturn Saluteā television tribute honoring Pittsburgh police officer Steve Mitrisin, which debuts Wednesday at 10 p.m. on the Discovery Military Channel.
The inaugural āReturn Saluteā features three on-location stories of citizen-soldiers who are granted special wishes in return for sacrifices made in the service of their country. Mitrisin served for a year in Iraq, missing the birth of his son and, among other things, the Penguinsā Stanley Cup victory. Mitrisinās wife, Kristin, also is a Pittsburgh police officer.
Mitrisin was the Penguinsā special guest at a practice in October, when he was surprised to be called onto the ice to meet the team by head coach Dan Bylsma. He also met team owner Mario Lemieux and received an autographed Penguins jersey. The next night, the Penguinsā honored him at a game against Phoenix at Mellon Arena.
A preview of the show is available on the Discovery Military Channel website at www.military.discovery.com.
