Prior to today’s 5:00 p.m. deadline, the Pittsburgh Penguins did not make a qualifying offer to center Riley Sheahan and winger Tom Kuhnhackl.
Both players are now unrestricted free agents and free to sign anywhere on July 1.
The Penguins are fully moving on from Kuhnhackl but the team had been trying to sign Riley Sheahan to a deal slightly To read this insider news, subscribe to get “Inside Access”!

Pacioretty almost went to the NYI’s, their first round pick to Montreal and then that pick to Buffalo for O’Reilly.
Good value. He is too important.
He could have been had for less but there was no way he was making the same amout as Sheary. JR screwed the pouch with that Sheary deal.
I don’t disagree, IMHO Rust’s value exceeds Sheary’s
Rust signs… 4 years… $14 million.
Pens sign Rust. 4 yrs $14 million.
Not bad
I am not a fan of yakupov always made fun of him as a one dimensional bust player. But malkin begging for a Russian winger I am open to give a try 1 year 1 million and that will be his last chance in the NHL
I would rather see that money go to defense.
I had thought a change of scenery would help too but it really seems like he simply lacks the IQ. He plays on an island out there and I am not sure playing with Malkin would change that much. If anything it could lead to frustrations.
The only thing he has going for him is he has a cool first name.
Here ya go Sam, something for Canada to hang their hat on. #1!!!

https://youtu.be/VHpePQ6FCkM Thumbs up folks don’t be shy won’t hurt to admit
Lol for some reason you think people actually watch anything you post.
It’s not made for you to watch you probably won’t get it
Jesus man, will you and NPL just fuk and get it over with? The obsession is crazy.
So the Penguins plan on going into next year with 0 centers who kill penalties. That should be interesting.
GMJR when asked if Brassard will kill penalties – “Brassard’s traditionally been a good faceoff guy, and he’s killed some penalties before. He’s good enough to do it, so yes.”
Playing on the PK isn’t as hard as some make it out to be. There’s a reason the bottom 6 generally play there. It’s more about the system and being smart. They have a good PK system and Brassard has always been a solid 2 way center.
How many did he kill for the Pens last year?
No idea. Just quoting JR from last weekend.

Duclair might be a nice bottom 6 option on the cheap.
Better than Kuhnackl. Kuhnackl was decent with Cullen though, can’t deny that. His game definitely slipped when he left. Kuhnackl had a couple beauties that year actually, lil back hand tuckski on a breakaway and half clapper while falling down.
If you’re telling me you have .750k to offer Simon or Kuhnackl….i’m giving it to Kuhnackl every day of the week. Simon is a bum who plays hard up and down the lineup, but doesn’t do anything above average. Kuhnackl couldn’t score, but skated hard and was an above average penalty killer. He’s what you expect out of a new age 4th liner.
I don’t like either, but Kuhnackl had 6 goals in 126 games over the last 2 regular seasons. 1 goal over the last 2 years in the playoffs. Need more than that from a 4th liner. Finding someone who can kill penalties and put up 6-10 goals a year for a mil or less isn’t hard.
Never said to keep Kuhnackl. Just said he did have a couple beauties.
Why would you do that, nobody is going to trade for Kuhnackl, I only said he had a couple nice goals playing with Cullen, nothing since 2015. Some dumb team like Edmonton will at least take a chance on Simon, even for a 5th/6 pick, like Arizona and Archibald last year
Kuhnackl was well below average at PK actually. He just blocked a lot of shots.
Is this in response to the curious Instagram comment?
Sheahan got his pay day two years ago, why would the Pens wanna go to arbitration, they can offer him 2.2 for 2 years and avoid a 2.8 salary for this year, that 600k would have been huge 3 years ago when there was no space to call up an extra defenseman, Sprong was locked up for .75, that’s the difference right there
From reading your profile, what are the chances you are a doctor?
Would anybody believe I won free tickets to a Pens game in 2009 on here lol
Haha that’s awesome
The year most of you were just discovering hockey when tickets were available every corner wish that was the case in my area only waiting list is minimum 5 years
Now there is a waiting list to return tickets in Montreal.
I have season tickets bud, I’d love to take you a game, I need friends too lol
I’m 31, male, and from Pittsburgh. Former junior Hockey player turned Drunk, I’m a blast boys
F**K, you sound hott
I own a beer distributor too, I’ll bring some Molson along
Triple XXX baby, good stuff. We used to down that stuff, best thing from Canada since Hockey
Is that 9 X’s?
Molson triple X.
Hold my spitter
I really wanna start getting involved in this after 8 years of watching the same three people complain since there’s nothing else to do on here
It won’t stop the morons that think he’s better than Brassard from crying about it all season.
A moron is someone who watched Brass@SID4800$$ and thought he played up to a 3rd or 4th line center. A player is only as good as his last season.
Lol no surprise you fall into that category. And even going by your logic, Brassard had 14 more points in 9 less games last year. He had a 6 game point streak before he was injured, something Sheahan has never accomplished. You trying to understand hockey is like Sam trying to understand rocket science.
Correct. I side with both Sams on occasion though so what do I know.
He dodges hockey knowledge like its Vietnam
Just not sure how you take a 12 game sample size over a career.
His career as a penguin so far he sucks. I know he had an injury luckily he must have been the only Pen hurt.
So we should have judge Iginla by his whole career even though he sucked on this team.
Iginla had 23 points in 28 games when he was here. Not sensational, but not bad. Do you remember anything past the last couple months?
The funny thing is tbj233 you really think you know hockey. At best if you are not Stan you are a poor imitation of him. But I don’t care you can have your loyalties to players much better than reality. Seriously some day you and all the jock worshipers should watch A BRONX TALE.
I just acknowledge a player is good when they are good. GMJR gave up a first rounder, top goaltending prospect and two roster players for him. Vegas ate some of his cap hit just to not play against him. You have the attention span of a goldfish. Not to mention, you never provide anything to back up your idiotic opinions, then get angry when someone points out how stupid you are. lol what a joke.
Agreed, a tumultuous period post trade from a system like that includes injury definitely negates his entire career until then… fuckk “Brass@ss” lol.
By what, October 27th 2018 you gonna feel different
His career as a Penguin was what? Horrible end result.
Haha his career as a Penguin didn’t even end yet. Jesus, do you struggle with even the simplest of things.
Hope your right but I doubt it. And good luck having sex with Brass@SID4800$$ I had suspected it was man crush thing didn’t realize how much. If Brass@SID4800$$ bothers you, use #Dynastykiller.
Yes, had the Pens not acquired Brassard they were a shoe in to win this year lol. Damn Brassard and his ability to kill a teams dynasty… ignoring all the issues that plagued the team much of the year!
why wouldn’t you qualify and trade the rights
Then that team will have to go to arbitration, do you really think a guy that had 2 goals, in game 82, 1 year ago is gonna get almost 3 mil in salary? No
With out Sheahan all we have are a #1, #1a and #5 center.
Clown pacioretty left pat brisson and went with Walsh. Apparently there was a deal with kings and didint happen
Lmao. And now we await bitter Maloni.
We might not be hearing from him for a while.
