After Travis Green decided to stay put with the Vancouver Canucks organization, the Penguins have hired Gary Agnew as an assistant coach. The team made the announcement this morning.
Agnew, 54, has spent several seasons working under Ken Hitchcock, as an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2006-2010 and St. Louis Blues from 2012-2014.
He was fired this summer by the Blues. Agnew was in charge of the Blues power play that went 2-for-29 in their first round series loss to the Blackhawks.
Agnew is highly respected around the league by his peers. He was also a candidate for the Penguins assistant coach position in 2010, interviewing with Dan Bylsma that summer, but the job went to Todd Reirden.
