It was fun playing with five D for one game for the Penguins. Playing with 17 skaters tonight, the Penguins were beat all around the ice in a 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Penguins had planned to dress 13 forwards and 5 defensemen tonight vs Philadelphia but Evgeni Malkin was a late scratch, meaning the Penguins for Saturday’s game vs Columbus, are eligible to make an emergency recall for a player with a cap hit under $650,000, if need be (Evgeni Malkin and Christian Ehrhoff remain out) since they played one game short of 18 skaters.
The Penguins are hopeful Christian Ehrhoff is able to amp up his on ice work tomorrow and practice with the team for Friday and potentially be an option to play this weekend.
If the Penguins have to make an “emergency recall”, the tentative plan for now is to recall defenseman Taylor Chorney. Regardless, expect the Penguins to dress six defensemen vs Columbus.
