Penguins re-assign Tim Wallace; Kunitz to return

The Pittsburgh Penguins re-assigned forward Tim Wallace today, paving the way for Chris Kunitz to return to the lineup this afternoon against the Washington Capitals.

Kunitz is expected to play with Sidney Crosby and Bill Guerin on the top line

Indications are head coach Dan Bylsma will go back with goaltender Marc Andre Fleury today.

There was some doubt that today's game would be played at the normal starting time (12:00 p.m.) but the game will start on time, the NHL announced this morning.

Pittsburgh arrived in Washington, DC, just before 3:00 a.m.

I don't want to overreact to this one. Guerin looked awful, 2 turnovers that led to goals where he just sort of stood there and Fleury really didn't look like himself. The stupid penalties didn't help either. But, let's remeber that they're going off of a few hours of sleep and stomachs full of burger king. We play them 2 more times, we'll get 'em.

The defense is soft, plain and simple. Fleury hasn't played particularly well, but it doesn't help when opponents are getting point blank shots and our defensemen get abused.

fleury needs to stop worrying about the olymipcs, it's clear its weighing very heavy on his mind. after the olymipcs my bet is he'll be back to his best. this game highlights the difference between the tams wingers, there team has wingers that carry the puck and makes plays, we only have kennedy who regulars carries the puck into the zone. guerin get's the puck stops skating and looks for sid. we need D Men at the trade but we need a legit top 6 winger too

I tried to stay positive about Feds but I can't after this game. I just tried to ignore his streakyness over the regular season because he would step up his game in the playoffs. But today was a playoff game and his effort was pathetic. I still don't want to trade him for the sake of a trade but his salary is a major reason we can't get a worth while winger for Malkin

Listen, it can be a misleading stat, but for you to sit there and say its irrelevant is completely incorrect. Is it the most reliable? Definitely not. But they don't keep the stat for no reason at all - and when the guy is blowing away the entire league as far as being on the ice for more goals than given up, it's pretty tough to make the argument that he plays no defense, or is defensively insufficient. On any level. By anyone.

Ovechkin is a great player, a complete player? Not even close, he takes shifts off in his own end just like Kovalchuck...They're both great goal scorers, but that's about it. I'd rather have a good goal scorer that plays both ends of the ice over and Ovechkin Kovalchuck type.

I remember them speculating that he used a different stick on the powerplay as opposed to regular strength because teams wouldn't challenge it on the PK for fear of going down 2 men. I have no doubt he uses one.
