Insider Only Penguins reward Eric Tangradi with expected short-term callup

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Eric Tangradi from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, the team announced this evening.

Tangradi, 22, currently leads WBS and ranks 10th in the AHL with seven goals, while ranking second on the team with 12 points in 12 games. Tangradi is coming off a two-goal performance in Wednesday night’s 4-2 WBS win at Norfolk.
The Penguins are rewarding Tangradi with what will surely be a short-term callup. The move though is questionable to take him out of the minors for a short-term callup when he is playing so well as he will likely play a 4th line role tomorrow night and maybe see some power play time.
Since the 2009-2010 season, Tangradi has played 16 career regular-season games for Pittsburgh, collecting three points (1G-2A). Overall, he has appeared in 119 career AHL contests, tallying 42 goals and 84 points.
Tangradi struggled mightily in training camp but went down to the minors with a great attidude and work ethic and has showed some scoring touch.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 221-pounds, Tangradi bulked up during the summer and is playing closer to 200 pounds.
Winger Tyler Kennedy is regarded as a game time decision for tomorrow night and expectations have been that he would return in one of the next two games this weekend but the Penguins may look to avoid playing back-to-back games with him and take the cautious route and hold Kennedy out of tomorrow night’s game.
