The Pittsburgh Penguins this afternoon have re-assigned Eric Tangradi and Tim Wallace to Wilkes Barre/Scranton. Two moves as I noted in an article last night that needed to be made.
Both have been overmatched and just aren’t fits at the NHL level.
The big disappointment was with Tangradi who upon his callup made great strides in the minors. However, his game just doesn’t translate to the NHL level at this point in his development. His skating is a major weakness in his game and the ability to make plays offensively is lacking.
There had been some thought that Tangradi could be an option for the Penguins later in the season but this is probably the last we’ve seen of him with the big club for this season.
Regarding today’s moves, the organization is expected to make at least one callup before tomorrow’s game.
Also just to be clear, this was NOT A PAPER Move as some are trying to speculate. Pens just want to get some better guys up here.
According to a team source, Chris Kunitz is unlikely to play tomorrow and Arron Asham is not

ready to return to the lineup. Asham is nursing a shoulder injury and hasn’t been on the ice.
Asham is currently on injured reserve.
The two strongest possibilities for a callup are said to be Nick Johnson and Ryan Craig. The organization is high on Joey Vitale and I would consider him among the top-3 candidate for a callup. There is also a need to bring in some skill, so Brett Sterling is expected to garner consideration. The Penguins brass were holding meetings this afternoon.
