The NHL cutdown day is not until Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. but with an off-day and traveling to Vancouver on Tuesday, the Penguins solidified their 23-man roster this afternoon.
As expected, Sidney Crosby and Dustin Jeffrey are among five players to be placed on injured reserve for the start of the season.

To get down to 23, Crosby, Jeffrey, Nick Petersen and defensemen Robert Bortuzzo, Boris Valabik have been placed on injured reserve, while Jason Williams, Brian Strait and Alexandre Picard have been re-assigned to Wilkes Barre/Scranton, the team announced.
Williams and Picard have to clear waivers by Tuesday at noon before they can join Wilkes Barre/Scranton.
Sources indicate that the Penguins feel Picard could be nabbed on waivers, with the Edmonton Oilers among the teams showing interest in him.
1st rounder Joe Morrow who made some noise in camp, has been returned to juniors.
Defenseman Brooks Orpik who has been limited for much of camp, will not be placed on injured reserve. Orpik is starting to intensify his workouts and has been cleared for contact.
Crosby it should be noted was not placedĀ on Long Term Injured Reserve, which could be a telling sign that the Penguins believe he could return before November.
