The Pittsburgh Penguins this evening signed forward Arron Asham to a one year deal worth $700,000.
Asham (5-foot-11, 205 pounds) played with the Philadelphia Flyers the past two seasons. He posted 24 points (10G-14A) and 126 penalty minutes in 72 games in 2009-10.
Asham chipped in a career-high four goals and seven points in 23 contests in the playoffs to help Philadelphia win the Eastern Conference title and earn a berth in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1997.
Asham provides a unique blend of skill and toughness and his agent Jarrett Bousquet tells me, Asham's desire to win a Stanley Cup lured him to Pittsburgh.
"Yes, it's a great fit with Arron's blend of skill and toughness, " Bousquet told Inside Pittsburgh Sports. "He {Arron} is very excited, Bousquet said.
Asham had several offers, believed to be more lucrative than Pittsburgh's but Pittsburgh was seen as the best place to win a Stanley Cup.
"We had several very good offers, Bousquet said. "In the end he {Arron} felt Pittsburgh was the best place to win the Stanley Cup. He wants to win bad after being that close, " Bousquet told Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
