Veteran forward Mike Comrie has agreed to a one year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The deal is worth $500,000.
The Penguins were intially looking at Comrie on a tryout basis but his willingness to sign for the league minimum led to the two sides pushing forward towards a deal after the Penguins decided not to bring Billy Guerin back.
This is another situation where a player wanted to come to Pittsburgh and chase a Stanley Cup.
Comrie, 29, has played nine NHL seasons with Edmonton, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Ottawa and the NY Islanders. In 568 career games, he has posted 167 goals, 192 assists, 359 points and 48 power-play goals. Comrie has appeared in 32 postseason contests, totaling 10 points (4G-6A).
Comrie had 13 goals and 8 assists in 43 games last season for the Edmonton Oilers. He has the ability to play both right/left wing and center. However, Comrie has been told by Pens management that he will begin camp on one of the top two lines or at least get an opportunity up there.
