The Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to a one year deal with Steve Downie. The deal is worth $1 million, agent Rick Curran confirms.
Downie had a down year with Flyers but dealt with hearing and concussion issues last season. He had 4 goals and 24 points in 62 combined games with the Flyers and Colorado Avalanche.
The Penguins project Downie to play on the 3rd line and believe he has the ability to take a shift with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin when needed.
Downie had a career high 22 goals in 2009-2010 when current Penguins assistant coach Rick Tocchet, was the Tampa Bay Lightning’s head coach.
