The Pittsburgh Penguins are teaming up with the National Hockey League and Huggies in the “Hockey for Huggies” program to help moms and babies in need.
At the Wednesday, Feb. 23 game against San Jose at CONSOL Energy Center, the Penguins are asking fans to bring an unopened package of diapers or make monetary donations for the purchase of new diapers as part of this unique, league-wide partnership. All 30 NHL teams are participating in the month of February.
Research shows that 1 in 3 American mothers and 1 in 5 Canadian mothers struggle with diaper need and often have to cut back on other basics to provide diapers for their babies.
The Penguins and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will be collecting the diapers as fans enter CONSOL Energy Center on Feb. 23. One of the Food Bank’s missions is to distribute diapers to local families in need. Monetary donations may be made at the Huggies concourse booth near section 110.
Fans who participate that night will be eligible to win prizes.
During the month of February, fans also may text the name of their favorite team (e.g. “Pittsburgh,” “Penguins” or “Pens”) to 501501 to donate $5 and help diaper babies in their communities.
