The schedule makers won’t be doing the Penguins any favors when they open the season in nine days.
Highlighting rival matchups to open the season, the Penguins will open the season on the road Saturday January 19th against the Philadelphia Flyers with an expected start date of 3:00 p.m.
There had been chatter of the Penguins and Flyers having a home and home series to start the season but that won’t be the case and word now is that under the current tentative schedule the league has worked up, Penguins are tentatively scheduled to face the New York Rangers at MSG on Sunday January 20th. The Rangers enter this season regarded by many as the favorites in the Eastern Conference.
In back to back situations the Penguins will be tested to open the season, if they do start the season in Philadelphia and New York. The Penguins are projected to play 48 games in a 98-100 day period.
